Our impact on society
We report annually on the impacts of our work and the risks associated with our operations in our green and social impact reports, our annual report and our Pillar III disclosure report on capital adequacy and risk management.
Environmental impacts of MuniFin's own operations
We comply with environmental laws and regulations in all our operations. We have received WWF’s Green Office certification, which requires comprehensive consideration of environmental aspects in the management of premises, decision-making and daily operations. Green Office workplaces are committed to continually improving their environmental responsibility.
MuniFin’s premises are powered by renewable wind power. Moreover, we annually offset the emissions generated by our employees’ air travel and the CO2 emissions caused by large customer events we organise.

Children and youth of Kokkola innovate environmental actions in a competition sponsored by the Green Pioneer of the Year prize money
The City of Kokkola won our Green Pioneer of the Year competition last year. The prize money was used to organize a competition in which local children and younth could propose ideas for sustainable development initiatives.

MuniFin issues a record-breaking EUR 1 billion green bond
On 15 February, MuniFin priced a fixed-rate EUR 1 billion green bond due 25 September 2028. The more than twice oversubscribed transaction is the largest EUR green bond to date for MuniFin as well as the largest EUR green bond of all time in the Nordic SSA market.
European Commission approved an extension and amendments to the Finnish aid scheme to support municipal energy companies
The Commission also extended the arrangement’s scope of application. The recently approved amendments to the scheme are in place until the end of 2023.
MuniFin joins Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF)
At the end of November, MuniFin joined Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF). This industry led initiative aims to develop and implement a standardised method for greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) accounting for the financial industry to align financial portfolios with the Paris Agreement.

The final report of the national working group on financing the green transition in Finland states that to mitigate climate change, halt biodiversity loss and transition to a circular economy, major investments will be needed from businesses, households and the public sector.

A wooden apartment building quarter is currently rising in the Kuokkala district in Jyväskylä. Its design emphasises environmental consciousness and communality. On 7 September 2022, the MGB decided to submit a notification to the European Commission seeking for permission to use funding guaranteed by the MGB to grant loans to energy companies controlled by Finnish municipalities.

MuniFin’s first green bond of the year was a great triumph despite the volatile market situation. The 7-year EUR 500 million fixed-rate benchmark priced on 10 May 2022 was quickly oversubscribed with nearly 80 percent participation from ESG investors.

MuniFin’s green bond premiere in the Sterling market attracted ESG investors
On 26 October 2021 MuniFin priced an inaugural GBP 250 million green bond maturing 16 December 2024. The green bond is the first of its kind for MuniFin in the Sterling market. The transaction was quickly oversubscribed with nearly 40% participation from ESG investors.
